According to the May 2016 Unites States Tractor and Combine report, recently published by the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), unit sales of 2WD farm tractors were the bright spot of the report, with total retail sales increasing 6.4 percent compared to May unit sales last year.
Retail sales of under 40-horsepower 2WD farm tractors were up 9.4 percent from 14,369 in May 2015, to 15,714 in May 2016. Sales of 40- to 100-horsepower tractors also increased slightly from 5,127 to 5,201 units (1.4 percent) for the month of May compared to last year. U.S. retail sales of over 100-horsepower 2WD farm tractors, 4WD farm tractors and self-propelled combines still continue to struggle with a decline of 3.5 percent, 26.1 percent, and 40.2 percent respectively, compared to unit sales in May 2015.
