EDA Attends Ag America

Last week, the Michigan Ag America Caucus hosted the Michigan Spring National Conference. Ag America’s conferences are developed and conducted with the understanding that a vibrant and successful agriculture industry is a combination of best practices and policy development with today’s agriculture leaders, farmers, ranchers, producers, agribusiness, industry associations and policy makers working together.  Participants at Ag America meetings and conferences have the common desire, vision and focus dedicated to supporting and protecting America’s agriculture future.   Participants included over 50 caucus members from over 25 states, policy experts, and more.  Among those in attendance was EDA’s Director of Government Relations, Alexis Strieker.

Strieker had the opportunity to discuss key issues related to the industry with state legislators and other political experts through engaging panel sessions, open dialogue Q&A, and other networking opportunities.  Throughout the conference, there were three large working group sessions where state leaders, associations, policy experts, and more gathered to discuss the Ag industry’s most pressing issues.  Over a dozen topics were discussed, including agriculture and technology, NAFTA, steel and aluminum tariffs, youths in agriculture, rural infrastructure, and state action on the 2018 Farm Bill.

“I really enjoyed my time in Grand Rapids at the Michigan Spring National Conference,” Strieker said.  “The amount of exposure that was available to have constructive, positive dialogue with state legislators was very impressive.  It is imperative that we have opportunities like this to advocate on behalf of our industry, and I think that this conference provided the best setting to do so. Ag America understands the essential role American agriculture plays in the U.S. and around the world in the areas of food production, energy, sustainability, labor, trade, the environment, and opportunity.  They advocate for common sense, free market principles and provide a forum for the exchange of best practices to strengthen America’s agriculture sector.  I look forward to growing our partnership with Ag America, and continuing our fight to better our industry together.”
