A Word from the Foundation Chair – November 2016

After serving in 2014 as the National Chairman of the Equipment Dealers Association Board of Directors, I am honored to serve as chair of EDA’s Equipment Dealers Foundation (EDF). I am joined by eight other extraordinary individuals, each of whom also previously served as chair of EDA’s Board. Each of us recognize the value of giving back to our communities, and we all look forward to overseeing the association’s charitable efforts.

EDF was established in 1988 as a way to assist the association’s dealer members and their employees. Over the years, we have been supported by dealers, manufacturers, suppliers and regional associations. Thanks to their generous support we have been able to provide financial aid to our members through funding for employee scholarships and assistance during times of natural disaster.

The objective of EDF’s scholarship program is to support the education, training and advancement of current and potential employees in the equipment industry. Scholarships are awarded to qualified students/trainees who are sponsored and recommended by equipment dealerships throughout the United States and Canada. Scholarships are available in each of EDA’s nine governance regions. Including matching funds from sponsoring dealerships, we were able to award 19 young men and women scholarships totaling $34,000 for the 2016-17 school year.

EDF created its Disaster Relief Program in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina destroyed dealerships and homes in our Gulf Coast region. This program provides grants to employees of equipment dealers for losses suffered as a result of flooding, fires and other natural disasters. Since its inception more than $260,000 has been awarded to 157 dealership employees to use for food, living expenses, home repair, transportation and much more.

It is critical that EDF continues to provide assistance to our members for education and disaster relief. If you would like to help make a difference, please consider donating to the foundation.
